The cluster is in the Umbrian Apennines, in the upper Vigi valley between wooded ridges and mountain slopes. The Vigi river runs through the area, and the Nera valley is nearby. This is inside the Parco Nazionale dei Monti Sibillini system at the eastern edge of Umbria. The nearest ski area is Forca Canapine on the Castelluccio plateau side, roughly an hour by mountain roads when operating. The nearest larger town is Foligno, which has rail links, services and the main commercial base for this part of the mountains. Nearby Norcia is the main historic centre for the high Valnerina and is known for cured meats and lentils from the Castelluccio plain area. The wider area is known for the Valnerina mountain valleys, forests, gorges, rafting on the Nera, and the high plain of Castelluccio farther east.
